What is organic and sustainable cashmere?
The organic cashmere garments from REPEAT are certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. This certification guarantees that raw materials are organically sourced and the factories only follow ecological and sustainable production processes. The latter is of importance, as clothing from organic materials can still be produced in a non-ecological way. Therefore, having both raw materials as well as production processes certified, is still very rare in the industry.

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard)
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognized as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
Garments are only labeled organic if they contain a minimum of 95% organic fibers. The sourcing of organic fibers needs to comply to a number of aspects. Strict audits are in place to cover all aspects of land management and animal welfare, including soil quality, grazing pressure, animal food, animal illness, pregnancy and newborn care, medicine control and after care of deceased animals.
Cashmere is a fiber which is obtained by carefully combing the downy undercoat of cashmere goats. Herders are educated on the proper care of goats and on the correct way of collection at the right timing when the down fiber molts naturally.
To protect consumer’s health, only low impact chemicals are permitted during production processes. Waste water treatment is required and happens under strict standards and goals are set to reduce water and energy consumption.
